The Boston Red Sox Are Addicted to Fortnite
For the Boston Red Sox, baseball isn’t the only game to obsess over. The team loves Fortnite, the free-to-play battle royale style shooter, so much that they forgot to eat.
The Athletic’s Jen McCaffrey spoke to members of the team about their love for the game and just how much they play it after games.
Pitcher David Price told McCaffrey, “let’s say we get back at 11 PM from a game, we’ll play [Fortnite] until 1 AM, 1:30 AM, 2 AM depending on what time our game is the next day – but day games or off days, we can put some time in.”
The team gets so involved in the game, however, that Price says they forget to eat. “We have to make sure, ‘All right we’ve got to eat. Let’s take 30 minutes, eat some lunch, and see you back in 30.’ But you can lose track of time whenever you’re playing it.”
Out of the bunch, apparently Carson Smith, the #39 pitcher, “takes over every game”. Price may have even gotten carpal tunnel from playing so much.
Alex Cora was asked if he knew how Price got the carpal tunnel. “It can happen in different ways.” Says he doesn’t believe that it’s from Fortnite, adding that Price has always been into video games.

Despite the slight obsession, the Red Sox are doing very well this season. They’re currently at 25-11, sitting just behind the New York Yankees at 26-10.
