Fantasy Flight Interactive to bring The Lord of the Rings LCG to Steam
If you don’t know, Fantasy Flight Games is a massive board game publisher who is establishing a video game division to bring some popular games to Steam. Now, is the first title. A popular Lord of the Rings LCG is coming to Steam in a free-to-play manor via Early Access sometime next year.
For those of us who stick to the digital side of things, let’s define some terms. CCGs are collectible card games, ones where the rules are static and new sets expand the library of cards in which to construct a deck. This is like Hearthstone, Magic, or Yu-Gi-Oh.
LCGs, or living card games, ditch the “spend-more-win-more” mentality, and give you every card in a set once expansions are released.
The LOTR CCG (we love acronyms) is going to be released as a free-to-play game initially, with card expansions available for purchase. Self-working mechanics in the game allow for co-op play of up to four players, and solitaire for solo players.
Hopefully, this means more Fantasy Flight games are coming to Steam, like the Arkham Horror LCG. We’ll just have to see. You can wishlist the game on Steam to be notified when it releases in the new year.
