Arkane founder: “I need to take a break”
Raphael Colantonio, founder of Arkane Studios, announced his resignation earlier this week. From Prey to Ark Fatalis, Colantonio lead the team through a crazy 18 years. In a recent interview, Colantonio said he just needed a break.
“Leaving this is actually a hard, hard choice, but at the same time I’ve been doing this for 18 years. I feel like I’ve never ever sat down, for even a minute,” Colantonio said. “It’s been a non-stop run, and I do feel like I need to take a break and rest for a while, and spend time on more personal projects—play music, spend time with my son, anything that isn’t work related and not pressure related.”
That pressure comes from the handful of hard times Arkane encountered
“It’s a mixed bag of emotions, because I love Arkane and I love Bethesda,” he said. “It’s been 18 years of very fascinating adventures – some super hard times, because as you know we were independent, and we almost went out of business several times.”
In fact, those hard times is what tipped Bethesda off. In an interview with GameIndustry.biz back in 2009, Colantonio spoke on the lack of money at Arkane. After, ZeniMax acquired Arkane and turned it into the juggernaut it is today.
At the very least, we can be thankful for that.
