Final Fantasy 14 under DDoS attacks
The past few days, Final Fantasy 14 has been having some connectivity issues. These weren’t out of the blue. According to Square Enix, the servers where FF14 is hosted were hit by DDoS attacks over the weekend.
“We have confirmed that since Jun. 16th, we have been experiencing DDoS attacks* from an anonymous third-party targeting the FINAL FANTASY XIV game servers on the NA data center.
Our technical staff is taking every possible measure to address this issue but the attack is still continuing to take place by changing their methods at every moment. We will continue to monitor and work on recovery from every possible angle.”
To explain quickly, a DDoS attack is basically oversaturating the network of a targeted server to take that server down. Basically, the server can’t handle all of the information being sent to it.
Now, even though the server has crashed, there has been no attempt to actually hack it, so all personal information is safe.
Issues are still occurring, and Square Enix technical staff is working on it. We’ll keep you updated.
