Square Enix Puts IO Interactive Up For Sale
The Hitman franchise has just hit a major bump in the road today. Square Enix has just announced that it has put IOInteractive up for sale.
IO’s most recent release was the episodic Hitman game last year which did fairly well from a critic’s point of view and there were plans for a second season of content to be released this year, however, those plans appear to have been scrapped with this news.
“To maximize player satisfaction as well as market potential going forward, we are focusing our resources and energies on key franchises and studios. As a result, the Company has regrettably decided to withdraw from the business of Io Interactive a wholly owned subsidiary and a Danish corporation, as of March 31st 2017,” a note from Square Enix said.
Square Enix have already said they are in talks with a number of potential new owners but have warned this may not amount to anything which could result in IO closing its doors.
