Nier Automata Mod Includes Piracy Check
For any of those meanie pirates out there who picked up Nier: Automata and were hoping to download the “FEAR Mod” that fixes the technical issues on PC will find themselves bitterly disappointed.
Upon installing the FAR mod, you get a warning saying “use of this software is granted on condition that any products being modified have been licensed to your under the terms and conditions set forth by their respective copyright holders”. If you move on from that screen, FAR then checks to see if you have a legitimate copy of the game. If you own the game then this passes fine, but any pirates out there will find themselves in an endless loop of accepting terms and conditions of installation.
The news broke via an article on Reddit and the comments are a little salty, to say the least.
If you do fail the test, nothing malicious happens, you aren’t getting reported to the authorities, it’s just an annoyance that you can’t proceed with installing the mod. I guess that is the swings and roundabouts of being a pirate.
The Steam forums have gone into meltdown with the issue since the original post was removed due to…interesting comments.
