Blizzard Announces Starcraft Remaster Including 4K Support
Blizzard finally confirmed that the beloved Starcraft will be receiving a remastered version, set to release this summer. This take on the old classic upgrades the visuals, including support for 4K resolution, as well as improves audio and dialogue. Both the base game as the Brood War expansion will be receiving the overhaul.
Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, had this to say on the remaster:
StarCraft is a pure distillation of Blizzard’s DNA—its story, its balance, and all the little details reflect our long-running commitment to epic entertainment, and it’s been a staple in competitive gaming and esports for almost 20 years. With StarCraft: Remastered, we’re modernizing the original game’s visuals, audio, and online support to ensure that players can enjoy StarCraft for another 20 years and beyond.
Outside of graphical improvements, the remaster will also fully integrate with the Blizzard App (formerly known as Battle.net) software, including advanced matchmaking, custom maps, cloud saving, and more. Blizzard has said that an official release date will be arriving at another time, but they expect the game to be out this summer.
The remaster will also bring the original versions of Starcraft and Starcraft: Brood War down in price to, well, free.
